Tea or Coffee , that was the first thing Debarati asked as I walked into the posh apartment she and her husband owns and sat down . As I sipped from the coffee mug enjoying the taste of the hot beverage on a cold winter morning , I started getting to know our “Start-Up Star of the month “.
Debarati Sinha is the well known founder of “People Process”, the #1 site for anything related to the field of Human Resources . In a brief span of 5 years , People Process or PePro as many call it has managed to become an extremely popular website and has generated a revenue of over 80 crores in 2026 alone. However , what drives her most is how much people find the platform uselful rather than the monetary component . So how did she get the idea of starting a website fully dedicated to the HR function . “It was not something entirely new “ , she said. “There were already innumerable sites dedicated to different facets of HR working differently catering to different needs”.There was not however , any single site which could serve sort of like an encyclopedia for HRs’ in India.”Being from HR profession and being always interested in writing, I had this idea to start blogging about HR related topics for a very long time”.However , the drive was missing.She was in a stable job , with a family and a young kid , financially she was stable and not motivated enough to start something new and doing something took a back seat. Then the pandemic came in 2020 . Several months of uncertainty prevailed and then she lost her job . “It was a very depressing time for me.I was working hard and was passionate about my job and yet I could not sustain it”.
Debarati was still trying to figure out what to do and then one fine day while going through her inbox , Debarati came along an interesting mail from a certain “Digital Deepak”. After going through his mails regularly she decided to sign up for Internship with Digital Deepak and thus began the most important chapter in her life till date. She started blogging about different topics but mostly about her experience and knowledge in HR field.People responded with positive feedback and shared their own insights and soon there was a whole community of HRs’ interacting with each other , supporting each and other and helping each other with various queries and shared experiences. Debarati thought then , how about creating a completely separate domain where HRs’ can interact and link HR related topics to help each other and for others who need HR related information. And thus People Process was born .
With an initial seed capital of 4 lakh and as a bootstraped start up, it was no doubt an uphill task.Debarati and her team of 4 people toiled and worked tirelessly for over two years trying to improve the site functions.Through extensive market research and using the most updated technologies , People Process bagan to reach wider audiences by 2024 and got investors’ attention. With capital pouring in and with further additions and improvements , PePros became the go to site for employees and employers in and across the world looking to understand about prevalent HR functions and compliances in India . Today , PePros serves a common platform and as a virtual HR support site.Everyday , we post important updates and developments on employment and labor laws , statutory regulations , HR trends across India and the world , important HR skill training from acclaimed trainers , interactive communties for members and all the while the posts and responses across the platform being monitored by the top HR professionals across the country.Last year we started with “ Employer Connect “ and “HRQ — Fun quiz for members to gain points and redeem badges and gifts” . “Employer connect“ is a new feature which allows employers to connect with prospective HR candidates for their organisations . So starting from your queries and interests , to fun games and to your ultimate dream job ,PePros serves all of this at an astounding price of 10₹ a year . Currently PePro is a SAAS based software with approx 350 employees ,over 14,000 paid members and growing at 20% on a quarterly basis .
Such a huge achievement at such a short period of time.How does she do it? Debarati’s answer is simple. “Never ever forget why you started this business”. It was to help employees on anything related to the field of Human Resources by creating a vibrant active and knowledgable community . As long as People Process can do it , it will be valued . Debarati is already looking to expand beyond HR processes in India and towards south east Asia.”India will however be our number one priority” .PePro has created a unique space for employees in India and we want to always retain that . “
Now as we approach the end of our conversation , I ask her the one thing that amazes her about PePro’s success.“Well , Its amazing how much people can achieve if they simply support each other with a positive mind.PePro is based on this simplest of concept”.In Debarati’s case , getting the unwavering support of her husband and her montor Deepak sir but also NOT getting the support of her job and the disaster of losing her occupation in the pandemic what made her who she is today.
“Had I not been fired , I would have probably still be working in a 9to 5 job , would probably have never gone through the goldmine of knowledge Deepak Sir provided, all through being oblivious to my true potential”.For Debarati , all it took was a disaster to unleash her 2.0 version.
